With City Skate Tours, both locals and tourists get to experience the inner city of Johannesburg in a new light. Factual information is combined with the tour guides’ own views on the history, current developments and potential future of the inner-city.
The tour is 1.5 to 3 hours long and is targeted at people looking to explore inner-city Johannesburg in a fun and exciting way, all with a skateboard.
The tour is specifically designed to accommodate people that have never skated before or have little to no experience. The first 20 to 30 minutes is a basic lesson on how to skate (how to stand, turn, push and stop on a skateboard) and the rest of the tour is spent exploring Maboneng, Marshalltown, Ferreirasdorp and Newtown on skateboards.
The tours happen every Saturday and Sunday and up to 7 people can be accommodated. If booking in advance, groups of 12 can be arranged. In addition to the tour itself, the price is inclusive of skateboards, safety gear and transportation. The tour starts at a meeting point, Curiocity Backpackers and finishes in Newtown, just outside Carfax with transport provided back to Curiocity Backpackers.
