Former South African President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela and his family lived here from 1946 into the 1990’s. Mandela donated the house to the Soweto Heritage Trust in September 1997, to be used not just as a visitor attraction, but also as a leading centre for the preservation, presentation, and research of the history, heritage and legacy of the Mandela Family.
